WHITAKER PEACE & DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE WEBSITE PRIVACY POLICY

Effective Date:  September 3, 2014

Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative (“WPDI”, “we”, “us”, “our”) has developed this Privacy Policy to help you understand what information we may collect from you and/or your device (computer, phone or other mobile device) while you use our website, www.wpdi.org (the “Site”), how we may use that information, and with whom we may share it.

You acknowledge that this Privacy Policy is part of our Site Terms of Use, and by accessing or using our Site, you agree to be bound by all of its Terms of Use, including, but not limited to, this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not access or use this Site.

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time. Such changes, modifications, additions, or deletions shall be effective immediately upon our posting the revised Privacy Policy on this page, so please check back regularly for any updates to the policy.

1. What information do we collect from you?

We do not collect any “Personally Identifiable Information” from you unless you voluntarily provide it to us. We may provide one or more online interfaces throughout the Site for you to voluntarily provide your name, email address, phone number, and certain demographic information such as your age. You will be notified each time information like this is being requested.

In addition, should you choose to make a purchase or a donation through the Site, we will ask for certain information from you, which may include, but not be limited to, billing information and shipping information, to complete the transaction.

In addition, we may also collect certain non-personally identifiable technical information, such as your IP address, the persistent device identifier of the device you use to access the Site, the location of the server through which you connect to the Site, and the type of browser you are using. This information will not be collected or maintained in away that will allow us to identify you with it.

2. How do we use information we collect from you?

We may use your Personally Identifiable Information for a variety of purposes, such as registering you as a volunteer (only if you request us to do so), adding you to our mailing lists (if you request to be added to it), and processing purchases or donations you make through the Site. Any information collected through the Site for a payment transaction will be used for the transaction only. Your personal information will be secured via SSL (Secure Socket Layer) Technology.

If you provide us with an email address, we may contact you at that address if, for example, you opt in to our mailing list or if there is any issue with your use of the Site.

We may use certain non-personally identifiable information collected from you, such as your IP address or the type of device or browser you use to access the Site, to diagnose problems with our servers or software, and to administer our Site.

3. With whom do we share your information?

We do not sell or disclose your Personally Identifiable Information to others, except that we may share such information with third party providers that help us run the Site and/or process any purchases or donations you may make through the Site.

We may allow third parties to place advertisements on the Site. We will not provide any third party advertiser with any of your Personally Identifiable Information or information about your donations, if any. We may, however, allow these third party advertisers to collect and use non-personally identifiable technical information about you, such as your IP address, browser type, the server your computer is logged onto, the area code and zip code associated with your server and whether you responded to a particular ad.

Occasionally we may be required by law enforcement or judicial authorities to provide Personally Identifiable Information to appropriate governmental authorities. We will disclose Personally Identifiable Information upon receipt of a court order or subpoena, or to cooperate with a law enforcement investigation. We fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies in identifying those who might use our services for illegal activities. We reserve the right to report to law enforcement agencies any activities that we believe in good faith to be unlawful.

4. What are your choices regarding collection, use, and distribution of your information?

We will only contact you if you voluntarily provide a means of doing so (e.g., an email address) and you (a) indicate that you wish to be contacted, e.g., you register as a volunteer or opt in to WPDI’s mailing list or (b) there is an issue with your use of the Site. You are not required to provide any information or to opt in to communications in the first place, but if you do, and you wish to change your communications preferences or request us to delete your information, you can contact us at info@wpdi.org.

5. What security precautions are in place to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of your information?

We implement a variety of security measures to protect your personal information when you donate or register as a volunteer. We use secure servers. Sensitive information, such as credit card data, is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and then encrypted into our payment gateway provider’s database, which is only accessible by those authorized users who have special access rights to such systems and are required to keep such information confidential.

Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet or any wireless network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your Personally Identifiable Information, you acknowledge that: (a) there are security and privacy limitations of the Internet that are beyond our control; (b) the security, integrity and privacy of any and all information and data exchanged between you and us through this Site cannot be guaranteed; and (c) any such information and data may be viewed or tampered with in transit by a third party.

6. Do we use “cookies”?

When you use our Site, we will store cookies on your computer in order to facilitate and customize your use of our Site. A cookie is a small data text file, which a website stores on your computer’s hard drive (if your web browser permits) that can later be retrieved to identify you to us. Our cookies store randomly assigned user identification numbers, the country where you are located, and your first name to welcome you back to our Site. The cookies make your use of the Site easier, make the Site run more smoothly and help us to maintain a secure Site. You are always free to decline our cookies (by implementing the appropriate settings in your browsers), but some parts of our Site may not work optimally in that case.

Third party advertisers that place ads on our Site may place separate cookies on your computer in connection with their service. WPDI does not have any information about, or control over, the use of these cookies. Each such advertiser should have its own policy governing the use of these cookies. If you have questions about the cookies associated with a particular ad or advertiser, please consult with that advertiser directly.

7. What should you know about privacy policies and data collection at any third party sites accessible from our Site?

This Privacy Policy only addresses the use and disclosure of information WPDI collects from you through the Site. Other sites accessible through our Site have their own privacy policies and data collection, use, and disclosure practices. Please consult each site’s privacy policy. We are not responsible for the policies or practices of any third parties. Additionally, other companies that place advertising on our Site may collect information about you when you view or click on their advertising through the use of cookies. We cannot control this collection of information. You should contact these advertisers directly if you have any questions about their use of the information that they collect.

8. How do we protect the privacy of minors?

We do not knowingly collect, use or disclose Personally Identifiable Information from anyone under the age of 13 or knowingly allow such persons to register for participation on our Site, including but not limited to registering for an account on the Site or otherwise participating in any of our events. If you are under 13, please do not access or use the Site, or if you do, please do not provide any information about yourself to us, including but not limited to your name, address, telephone number, or email address. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us info@wpdi.org.

We recommend that minors between the ages of 13 and 18 years of age ask a parent or guardian for permission before sending any information about themselves to anyone over the Internet.

9. Our Privacy Policy may change over time.

This Privacy Policy may change over time. We encourage you to refer to this Privacy Policy from time to time to see our most current privacy practices. If you are a registered user of our Site, we may notify you by email of material changes to our Privacy Policy using the most current email address you have provided to us. Your continued access and use of our Site will constitute your acceptance of any changes or revisions to our Privacy Policy.
